1. How does a push button switch work?

Push button switch is a small switching device used to close or disconnect control circuits to issue instructions or program control. It consists of an actuator, a main body and a contact point.

Contacts are divided into constant open contacts and constant closed contacts. When you press the actuator, the spring moves, the contact opens or closes, and it completes the current loop or circuit break.

The main body of the switch is made of non-conductive plastic, the actuator is made of metal or plastic, and the contacts are made of copper. In order to keep good electrical conductivity at lower voltage and small current, a layer of gold or silver will be coated on the surface of copper contacts.


2. What are the types of switches?

Push buttons are classified into maintained push buttons and momentary push buttons according to the reset mode of operation mechanism.  It is also classified into plastic push button and metal push button according to the main body material.

6. What is SPST switch?

DPDT switch is basically two SPDT switches, which can control two separate circuits, but are always switched together by a single actuator.


8. What is the difference between SPST, SPDT, DPST and DPDT switch?

SPST is a basic on/off switch that can turn a single electrical circuit on or off. A SPST switch has one input terminal and one output terminal.

A SPDT switch one input circuit to one of two output circuits. The type of switch is sometimes called an A/B switch because it lets you choose between two output circuits, called A and B. A SPDT switch has one input terminals and two output terminals that is A and B outputs.

A DPST switch turns on or turns off two circuits. A DPST switch has two inputs terminals and two outputs terminals. The on/off state of the two circuits is controlled synchronously.

A DPDT switch can control two separate electrical circuits, connecting each of two inputs to one of two outputs. So a DPDT switch has six terminals, include two inputs, two A outputs and two B outputs.


9. What does a double pole switch do?

A double-poles switch is mechanically operated by the same lever or actuator, but that can control two electrical circuits. The double-poles switch is commonly used in industrial applications but can be found in some house applications. Like the single-pole switch, a double-poles switch has on/off markings and controls a device or equipment from one location. The main difference is that a double-pole switch has four brass terminals, instead of two. Double-poles switches are commonly rated for 30 amps, compared to 15 or 20 amps with standard switches. This allows the switches to control power feeding higher-demand appliances, for example machinery motors.

A switch pole refers to the number of separate circuits that the switch controls. A single-pole switch controls just one circuit. A double-pole switch controls two separate circuits.
