1. What is a Moulded Case Circuit Breakers?

Moulded Case Circuit Breakers name MCCB, it is also overload and short circuit protection devices, Similar to Miniature Circuit Breakers. But Moulded Case Circuit Breakers can withstand more short circuit current more than miniature circuit breakers. Also, the continuous current rating of the same can be adjusted as per requirement. Some of these breakers also have an inbuilt ground fault and residual current protection features. MCCB is equipped with trip units to sense and interrupt the current flowing through it. The thermomagnetic trip units use the bimetallic strip for current sensing and operation and microprocessor-based units consist of built-in CTs for current.


2. What is the difference between MCB and MCCB?

MCB and MCCB are commonly used circuit protection devices. These devices provide protection against over current and short circuits. There are few differences between these two devices besides current rated capacity. Current rated capacity of MCB is commonly under 125A, and MCCB is available up to the rating of2500A.


3. What is the difference between MCCB and RCCB?

MCCB and RCCB are circuit protection devices with two different applications. The former protect against overload and short circuit, the later protects against Residual currents and electric shock.


4. What is the difference between MCCB and MPCB?

Moulded Case Circuit Breaker and Motor Protection Circuit Breaker are used to open and close a circuit manually and interrupt the circuit automatically on the occurrence of faults. MPCBs and MCCBs are used to protect against overload and short circuits. However application of Motor Protection Circuit Breaker is entirely different from that of Moulded Case Circuit Breaker.

MPCB can protect motors against overload, short circuits, phase loss and under-voltage faults. The former is specially designed for motor protection, for example, asynchronous or Induction motors.
